How to Aid the Correction of Angular Limb Deformities in Foals Using Physeal Stimulation
نویسنده
چکیده
Stimulation of the physeal growth plate offers an effective, practical, and economic treatment for foals with angular limb deformities. The treatment can be carried out under sedation at an early age, and it leaves no detectable signs after treatment. Correction of Angular Deformities
Physeal distraction is an alternative to more conventional treatments for the correction of angular deformities of the long bones. Twenty deformities of the femur and tibia, vine of which also involved associated shortening, were partially or completely corrected. In eight cases, there was physeal bony bridge. Complete correction of the angular deformity was achieved in 17 patients, and in seve...
متن کاملDeformity correction during growth after partial physeal arrest.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate our treatment protocol for certain physeal injuries requiring complete epiphysiodesis of an injured physis, angular correction and lengthening with the Ilizarov method and overcorrection of length according to calculated loss of remaining growth. Five patients (age: 12 to 14 years) were operated with angular correction and lengthening in combination wit...
متن کاملDiagnosis and Treatment of Limb Deformities in Foals
Limb deformities in foals can be subdivided into two major groups: 1) angular limb deformities, in which there is deviation, primarily in the frontal plane, originating at a joint and/or growth plate; and 2) flexural limb deformities, in which there is persistent hyperflexion or hyperextension of the limb. These conditions are generally categorized under the umbrella term of developmental ortho...
متن کاملTraumatic growth arrest of the distal tibia: a clinical and radiographic review.
BACKGROUND Injury to the physis of the distal tibia in children can lead to subsequent growth arrest. This can result in physeal bars, leg-length discrepancies and angular deformities. METHOD The cases of 12 children with distal tibial growth arrest due to ankle trauma were reviewed. All were treated at a tertiary care institution between 1990 and 2002. RESULTS The average age at initial in...
متن کاملClinical Use of Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) for the Treatment of Carpus Valgus Deformities in Young Foals: A Retrospective Study of 64 Cases (2006-2009)
The purpose of this study was to report the use and assess the effects of extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) for the treatment of carpal joint valgus deformities (CJVDs) in young foals. Only foals with CJVDs greater than 5 ̊ were included in the study. Foals were assigned to 3 treatment groups based on their degree of CJVD measured during the initial evaluation: valgus deformity (VD) of 5 ̊ ...
